The Centaur - Nicole O’Regan

The Centaur greets guests in the front garden and reflects the start of the Littlebourne story.

The first NSW Mounted Police unit was led by Lieutenant Thomas Evernden, who built Littlebourne.

Sent from Sydney in 1826 to quell bushrangers and keep convicts in line, the first mounted police unit was based near Old Government Cottage across the river in the main part of Bathurst township.

Reflecting this story, The Centaur is half man and half horse. The beautiful sculpture weaves local rocks into iron baskets and holds the story of our country. Fossils in the rocks also reflect life long ago.

The sculptor is Nicole O’Regan, and we are very grateful for her imagination and inspiration.
