Ribbon Gang suite
twin single suite in the original servant dining hall
Named in honour of the rebellion led by a convict called Entwhistle who dared swim naked in the nearby Macquarie River. For this crime, the Police Magistrate Lt Evernden ordered the convict receive 50 lashes.
Entwhistle escaped in September 1830 and went looking for Evernden. Failing to find him, Entwhistle then rampaged through the countryside for weeks gathering up to 300 other escapees (bounders), many wearing ribbons on their hats as per an Irish protest tradition.
